The latest BS; 5837 2012, requires that trees on development sites are protected. Landvision tree surveys and reports are carried out at an early stage of the development process wherever possible.
Firstly, look at the site. Is it sunny? Is it sheltered? If it is in a wind corridor, a street where the wind blows through, in winter this will be very cold and exposed. Conversely, a sunny sheltered courtyard may allow you to plant a more tender tree, such as an Olive tree or Magnolia grandiflora.

The new BS; 42020 Biodiversity - Code of Practice for planning and development will help biodiversity offsetting. This is due to the fact that planning, buildings, new developments plus changes in land use, are all included in this new BS 42020 on biodiversity.
